ROBOTS PLAY AN EVER-INCREASING role in our world. Many people tend to think of robots as walking, talking, human-like creations portrayed in science-fiction movies. However a robot is in fact a mute, automatic machine, with electronic brains programmed to carry out specific tasks. Most robots are used in industry. For example, nuclear scientists use robots to handle radio activity materials. In the 1980s, scientists also began to to recherch the use of robots in rotien medical surgery.
As research into robotic continues, more versatile and user-friendly robots are being developed. Three-dimentional vision and increasing sencitivity enable industrial robots to carry out more routine jobs, while
How a robot works
